The Seasons and the Weather
There are four seasons in the year. They are spring, summer, autumn and winter.
In spring the sun shines brightly and it becomes warm. The sky is blue and cloudless. The fields are covered with fresh green grass. Nature is full of new life.
Summer comes after spring. It is the favourite season of many people. In hot weather you can go swimming or boating. It is always noisy on the banks of rivers and lakes. It is pleasant to walk in a wood with a basket and pick mushrooms and berries. Sometimes it rains. But there are usually few rainy days in summer.
In autumn it is often foggy and rainy. It becomes cold. The leaves become yellow and red and fall off the trees. Most birds fly away.
Then winter comes with its very short days and long nights. The lakes and rivers freeze. The ground is covered with snow. Yet both children and grown-ups like winter very much. They can go skating and skiing. They can play hockey, too. Russian winter is very beautiful.
