A Christmas Carol (Simplified)
Ebenezer Scrooge is a mean and greedy man. On Christmas Eve, he refuses to have dinner with his happy nephew, Fred. He also gets angry at people who ask for money to help others and makes his worker, Bob Cratchit, work too much.
That night, Scrooge's old partner, Jacob Marley, comes to visit him as a ghost. Marley has been wandering since he died because he cared too much about money and not enough about people. He warns Scrooge that three spirits will visit him in the next three nights.
Scrooge goes to sleep and wakes up to see the Ghost of Christmas Past. This ghost is small and old. It shows Scrooge scenes from his past. He sees himself as a lonely boy and then as a young man who started to love money more than love. Scrooge feels sad when he remembers his old self.
After this, Scrooge falls asleep again and wakes up with the Ghost of Christmas Present. This ghost is big and shows Scrooge how people celebrate Christmas today. He sees the Cratchit family and learns that their sick son, Tiny Tim, might die if things don’t change. The ghost also shows him Fred's Christmas party. At the end, two poor children come out from the ghost’s clothes. The ghost tells Scrooge to be careful of Ignorance and Want.
Then, a silent ghost called the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come appears. This ghost shows Scrooge scenes of people talking about someone who has died. No one seems sad; they are happy instead. Scrooge doesn’t know who has died until he finds out it is him! He learns that Tiny Tim has died too but that the Cratchit family still loves each other.
Scrooge realizes he can change his future. He promises to learn from the past, present, and future about being kind.
When Scrooge wakes up in his own bed, he finds out it is Christmas Day! He is happy now. He sends a big turkey to the Cratchits, gives money to charity, and enjoys Fred's party. The next day, he gives Bob Cratchit a raise.
From then on, Scrooge is kind to everyone and becomes like a second father to Tiny Tim, who does not die. He never sees the ghosts again but keeps the spirit of Christmas in his heart forever.
