Soulmate

Надин Блэк (Nadine Black)

Everyday life. So grey, so boring. It's exhausting. Highly. On weekdays I wake up at 8 o’clock, go to school, do my homework and after that evening comes. I can’t go out on the street or invite anyone to visit. All that remains is to stare at one's phone screen or engage in self-development. But even this is becoming something so usually that one doesn’t want to do it at all. Someone said that stability is good. Possibly. But not in my situation.

Upon arriving at school, classmates tell how they visited another city, how their parents bought them a new phone and other "rich" things. I can’t tell about anything. Only if I really want to. Tell that I wrote another story? That I bought a new book? It's not a good idea. Nobody wants to know at all. I can't tell anybody about my problems, and no one asks. Well, it is not necessary.

The only one who is ready to listen to me waits for me every day in my room. Every day he wonders how I am, what happened. He's about the same age as I. Beautiful. Black shabby hair, green eyes, black pants and a short-sleeved shirt. And also this attentive, firm, but a knowing look. I haven't yet seen such a look from anyone who was listening to me.

I remember that night, when I met with him. I was sitting on the porch of a house. In front of me was a view of the field, after which there was a forest. The night sky was strewn with stars, which I then remembered forever. He sat next to me and didn't pay attention to me until I asked:

— Where am I?

— This is my home. I live here.

— Why am I here?

— What do you think about it?

— I don't know.

— Me too.

— Okay… What's your name?

— Victor.

— And what do your friends call you?

— I haven't got friends.

— Oh, sorry. I didn’t know.

— It doesn't bother me, so you can relax.

— Okay.

— What's your name?

I told him my name and after that we started a conversation. He was very interesting. Basically, our conversation was about getting to know each other, that is, we just briefly told where we live, what kind of people we are, and so on. Then I noticed the sun rising over the horizon and realized that it was time for me to go home. I tell him that my mom will worry if I don't come on time. He happily agreed to meet the next night.
